NFL Pre-Season Wrap-up, News for the Regular Season

Headlining the transition from pre-season to regular season, Matt Leinart has been released by the Cardinals. Also, Big Ben Roethlisberger had his suspension reduced to 4 games.

Can’t say I’m too surprised at either of these big headlines, but for the Cardinals, you better find a QB quick, because we know Kurt Warner isn’t coming back. For the Steelers, they wanted to reduce Ben’s suspension to 3 games because of Byron Leftwich being out 2-4 weeks. But that didn’t happen, especially with Roger Goodell and his messed up head. Ben isn’t charged with anything but yet, how many players get absolutely nothing with DUI’s this year? Why hasn’t Cedric Benson or Michael Vick gotten suspended for their misbehavior this off-season?

In other NFL news, Sam Bradford will be the starting QB for the Rams, Willie Parker has been released from the Redskins, and Ed Reed will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Regular Season kicks off Thursday with the Saints facing the Minnesota Vikings.

Fun Fact for this pre-season: the Carolina Panthers did not score an offensive touchdown

Blount Punching Again

Source: Bleacher Report

That’s right, the same guy who got suspended for 8 games in college for punching a Boise State player when he was in the University of Oregon. But, this time it’s not really a big deal. Of course the media might make a big deal out of it, but Titan’s coach Jeff Fisher did not think too much of it.

Fisher went on to say, “his past is his past. Is that the first punch you’ve seen in camp this year? No. I’m not disappointed whatsoever. I have great confidence in the young man that he learned from his mistake, and he’s very competitive. That’s why we brought him in here is to watch him run the football like that.”

LeGarrette just better make sure he doesn’t continue to show sparks of violence like this, because in the NFL, it won’t be pretty. He will probably land on the Raiders or Bengals if he does…

What to Watch For: NFL Hall-of-Fame Game

Today is the first day of pre-season football. Catch the Cowboys play the Bengals in the NFL’s annual Hall-of-Fame Game. It is the first time T.O. will go against his former Cowboy team. Yes it is pre-season, but it sure has felt like a really long time since last season ended.
What will be interesting to watch is the new tandem of T.O. and OchoCinco. The Bengals got to get T.O. used to the offense, and learn how to play with another selfish player who wants the ball just as much as he does.

For the Bengals they have a good set of rookie’s to look for:
TE Jermaine Gresham, DE Carlos Dunlap, WR Jordan Shipley, WR Dezmon Briscoe

For the Cowboys they really only have one exciting player in Dez Bryant. But he will not be playing because he is injured.

Favre to Retire?

Obviously this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this, but according to a source, Brett Favre told the Vikings that he is done. Now first of all, I’m not too sure I believe it. Not the source, but just the fact that he is going to finally retire.
If he does retire, then wow what a selfish player. The Vikings are basically relying on him to be great next season, and less than a week away from pre-season kickoff, he decides he’s going to retire. So now they have to get some other guy ready to be the starter after Favre was doing nothing for this whole time since the end of last season. This is why I have disliked Favre for the last few seasons. You just don’t do this to a team. You don’t tell them you’re thinking about it for months, and moments before the season you change your mind ten more times. Yeah there’s probably health issues involved and if that is the reason he waits until right before the season starts, then you should just retire.

Haynesworth Continues to Fail Conditioning Tests

Haynesworth still can’t play due to failing conditioning tests. This is pretty embarrassing mainly because on ESPN they had one of their crew member attempt the conditioning test without training, and he passed. Albert you have one of the biggest contracts for an NFL player but yet you can’t pass a simple conditioning test? He wasn’t able to finish today’s attempt because of his knee, but I don’t know why it’s taking him more than ONE try. He needs to get it going, because if he does decide to switch over to DE he needs to start practicing immediately.
